Faith-based schools are owned and operated by religious organizations. The majority of the faith-based private schools in the United States are
parochial schools, operated by Catholic parishes, but schools also include other denominations such as, Protestant and Hebrew. The academic curriculum at these schools is supplemented with required daily religious instruction and prayer. Teachers may often be religious leaders or other members of the religious community.
Proprietary schools are private schools that are run for profit and do not answer to any board of trustees or elected officials. Proprietary schools claim to be able to respond quickly to the demands of the market. Many belong to an organization called the
National Independent Private Schools Association . Tuition is comparable to that of private, nonprofit schools.
